Crouching and MC animations

Today I learned how to properly make animations (well, how to be efficient at making something that works). I got to make the whole skeleton for this bad boy and made it so he can crouch and his hitbox becomes smaller accordingly. This means I'll be able to make:

A. Some of these notorious vent segments

B. Stealth segments where you walk under the legs of a monster while trying to dodge the ball sweat, spooky!

C. That's all

Youtube video

Here's a "not terrible" video of everything that's in the other posts. The thumbnail magically set iself as our beloved skeleton painting. What a coincidence.

Story wise

The story,

Oh the story.

I thought about it for a while and reading a bunch on what makes good horror and immersion led me to read on the differences between a character and an avatar in an article (see bottom).

Basically, to immerse you want the protagonist to be very somewhat vague and generic so that people can relate to him.

How do I relate to gamers you ask? Well I decided to make the main character a NEET which stands for Naturally Enjoying Extreme Tickles.

Just kidding asshole! Here's what it really means:

Not in Education, Employment or Training. A neet is someone who lives by leeching off of someone (usually his parents) while he only plays video games, eats, sleeps at 4am, wakes up at 2pm, eats, video games...

THE GREATEST LIFE OF ALL.

But then comes the crushing depression and anxiety that comes when you realize you've deceived them, and you deceive them every single day that you keep living like that (ok maybe they don't give a fuck but let's keep the drama switch on ok? No shut up, it's on motherfucker)

So the game is going to be all about being a NEET. GREAT. So what do neets do? Well this one's gonna have to do something about his neetiness as you'd expect and that's going to be quite an adventure to get through. I don't have anything else to tell you really. That's it. Hope you're not let down cause that's all I got.

Here's your battle station you wonderful bastard.

Share a feel

In this vid you can get a feel for what the main menu's gonna be like. I made the music on my own from scratch (bitch) and for a first song ever, I'm pretty happy with it.

I really need to work on the sky though. I made a huge circle that spins with the different lights attached to it so that the scene is affected properly but I think I didn't approach the circle sky the right way in photoshop. It's really not as smooth a transition as I'd like.

THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

Hi everyone,

I'm currently making a horror game based around this idea:

Breaking the rules set in video games.

On this blog I'll keep you up to date on what I do while still trying to keep some secrets from you since knowing is power, and power with nothing to balance it doesn't make good horror.

Here are a few very early gameplay videos (lots of work to do I know)

I hope you like it and want you to know that I'm really open to ideas so everything you think could make for a good spook might actually get in the game (I'll make a Special thanks section with your name in it or something). Feel free to tell me about your video game horror moments and fears. I have a text file already bursting with ideas, but the beast is always hungry so keep it going.

The graphics are pretty bad but I think that it lets me make more content faster and makes the whole thing easy to polish at will. The best thing is that it also adds a great amount of creepiness to things. I'm sure you know how some shitty models and textures can be creepy sometimes.

I really want this game to be made in part by the players themselves. While I spend lots of time on video games and I can have good ideas at times, I'm certain that you can too and I'll have the power to use them to great effects, so let's put it all together to make a great project and spook each other out.

I'll make some posts to tell you all about the story and other elements.
Thanks for checking it out.
